What is

Feel Sh!tty Look Pretty?

"Feel Sh!tty, Look Pretty"  is something I started saying in high school as a response to people telling me "you don't look like you're in pain."

Before I was diagnosed with hypermobile Ehlers Danlos Syndrome and many of its comorbitities, I didn't have an explanation for why my appearance never matched how I felt.  This phrase was a brief way to "explain" that outward appearance doesn't actually tell you anything about what a person is going through.

When I started seeking a community that understood how I really felt, I found the phrase to be a funny way to relate to others with invisible illnesses. We all *get it*.

I decided to use the phrase for my brand name because the point of this brand (aside from supplying the cutest jewelry, obviously) is to spread awareness for our community and to help provide access to care by raising funds for Patients Rising's Patient Helpline.

Okay....but

what does it actually mean?

You don't have to be disabled or invisibly ill to understand or relate to the concept behind "Feel Sh!tty, Look Pretty".
You understand because you've experienced moments when you had to show up and show out even though you felt awful.
You understand because you have felt completely overwhelmed and have still taken on something extra in order to help someone else.
You understand because you've had instances where you had to really work to find the beauty in the world.
And you understand because you did find it, and you learned that sometimes it can just be really hard to see it.
Our goal is that spreading our message through our unique jewelry, apparel, and accessories will start a much-needed conversation about invisible physical and mental illnesses.
Wear your Feel Sh!tty Look Pretty merch with pride, and tag us on social media so we can continue to spread our message!

Meet our founder

Marybeth (MB) Marshal

MB Marshal is an artist, content creator, jewelry designer, and lifetime lover of all things creative.
A note from MB:
I am so grateful that you landed here and are interested in learning more. Whether you found me through social media, an in-person event or on your quest for durable, unique, and slightly unhinged jewelry, welcome! This website is dedicated to all things I produce, create, and am proud of.
My alter ego and chronically online presence is @MBMarshal on Instagram and TikTok, and with these platforms I am able to fulfill my passion for helping others and spreading awareness for the disabled and chronic illness communities.
My purpose as a content creator is to help other people struggling with their mental or physical health to realize that their lives don't have to end upon onset of symptoms or diagnosis.
Yes, it's completely life changing to become sick or develop an illness or disability, but it does not mean that you have to give up your dreams, hang up your goals, and sit at home forever.
I strive to spread the knowledge that feeling beautiful and powerful in your skin can be the motivation you need some days to get out of the house, chase that dream, meet up with old friends, seek that treatment, pursue a diagnosis, or whatever it is that you need a little push to accomplish.

  A little about me:

I am a Connecticut-born, London-raised, Boston-schooled, Florida resident.

I believe that creativity in any form is a healing art, and a painting or theatre production or statue or film or piece of jewelry can take you out of your current mindset and help to put you on a different path.

As a creator, I hope to be generous in my work, and leave my viewers and customers with much more than they started. As an advocate, I hope to give a voice to an underrepresented group of people who absolutely deserve to be heard.
Whether you're on the site to shop or just to get to know our mission a little better, I am so grateful that you are here.
xo, mb
