What is

Feel Sh!tty Look Pretty?

"Feel Sh!tty, Look Pretty"  is something I started saying in high school as a response to people telling me "you don't look sick."

Before I was diagnosed with hypermobile Ehlers Danlos Syndrome and comorbitities, I was a confused and neglected mystery patient who didn't have an explanation for why my appearance rarely matched how I felt. I lived a "fake it 'til you make it" lifestyle and strived to mask my symptoms with pretty makeup and great outfits. This helped me feel like a person instead of a patient, but it made it difficult for doctors to take my invisible symptoms seriously.

I was fighting against the disparity between how I felt and how the world saw me.

I needed to be taken seriously to get medical answers, but some days, as silly as it may seem, the makeup I had on or the accessories I was wearing were the only things making me feel human.

So I started saying "feel sh!tty, look pretty" as a flippant explanation and reminder not to make assumptions based on appearance. I wasn't going to change myself to fit into the mold of what a patient is "supposed" to look like, and I wanted to be able to wear my cute stuff with pride, instead of feeling bad that I didn't look "sick enough".

So I turned my catchphrase into a brand that sells pretty jewelry and accessories to dress up any sh!tty day.

We celebrate individualism and self expression, we value unprejudiced acceptance, and we advocate for those living through invisible battles.

Meet our founder

Marybeth (MB) Marshal

MB Marshal is an artist, content creator, jewelry designer, and lifetime lover of all things creative.
A note from MB:
I am so grateful that you landed here and are interested in learning more. Whether you found me through social media, an in-person event or on your quest for durable, unique, and slightly unhinged jewelry, welcome! This website is dedicated to all things I produce, create, and am proud of.
My alter ego and chronically online presence is @MBMarshal on Instagram and TikTok, and with these platforms I am able to fulfill my passion for helping others and spreading awareness for the disabled and chronic illness communities.
My purpose as a content creator is to help other people struggling with their mental or physical health to realize that their lives don't have to end upon onset of symptoms or diagnosis.
Yes, it's completely life changing to become sick or develop an illness or disability, but it does not mean that you have to give up your dreams, hang up your goals, and sit at home forever.
I strive to spread the knowledge that feeling beautiful and powerful in your skin can be the motivation you need some days to get out of the house, chase that dream, meet up with old friends, seek that treatment, pursue a diagnosis, or whatever it is that you need a little push to accomplish.

  A little about me:

I am a Connecticut-born, London-raised, Boston-schooled, Florida resident.

I believe that creativity in any form is a healing art, and a painting or theatre production or statue or film or piece of jewelry can take you out of your current mindset and help to put you on a different path.

As a creator, I hope to be generous in my work, and leave my viewers and customers with much more than they started. As an advocate, I hope to give a voice to an underrepresented group of people who absolutely deserve to be heard.
Whether you're on the site to shop or just to get to know our mission a little better, I am so grateful that you are here.
